As far as we can tell, fire demons are a fairly generic sort of creature to be found in various books and games, although they are particularly associated with the Fighting Fantasy series. Another possibility is that they are inspired by balrogs in the Middle-Earth stories of J.R.R. Tolkien. They are described as horned, red-skinned with cloven hooves and wings, and are often portrayed with either a sword or a whip. The two examples you get in this set follow this general description, although instead of a sword one carries an axe, and for some reason one has horns up while the other has horns down. These not-very-friendly chaps stand about 60 mm tall, and each has a great set of wings which, it must be said, do not look nearly large enough to allow them to fly, at least to our eye. The wings are separate and fix to holes in the back of each creature, but we found this a really tight and difficult fit. Nevertheless the result is an impressive creature and the picture speaks for itself. We certainly enjoyed the sculpting, and while there is a little flash, this is in very few places. There are very few real-world situations where such miniatures are appropriate or useful, which is a pity (sort of) as they are really pleasing models.
