Review

This was the first 1:72 set from a new British manufacturer, Accurate, whose declared aim was, perhaps predictably, to produce the most accurate figures yet seen. It seems fair to say that with this set they succeeded.

This is in fact a scaled down copy of their 1:32 British Infantry set, but with a number of new poses. With a very impressive 17 poses in all, this set comes close to the largest sets Airfix ever produced, and all the poses are very good. Detail is crisp and the figures believable. The uniforms are not all identical, which accurately reflects the realities of this war, and equipment is equally diverse. The officer figure is very interesting as he has not been depicted encouraging his men on, but merely watching developments. The equally good sergeant on the other hand is clearly yelling at his men to get a move on. The drummer in his grenadier cap is a very nice touch, and the ensign is another very welcome figure, though he has had to lose his hat because of the problems of undercutting on the mould. The remaining infantry are uniformly fine, with some very good poses, and all are well sculpted.

The figures have a minimum of flash, and about the only drawback is that a few are missing some straps at the rear which should be there as they have the straps at the front. Still, nothing a bit of creative painting can't remedy, and it is almost unnoticeable at a glance.

A very good set that set the standard for American War of Independence British Infantry.
